My inspiration:
The inspiration for this piece of art began after a local Metchosin family presented a moving slide presentation of their stay at Atsikana Pa Ulendo (APU), a secondary girl’s school in the central region of Malawi.  This family experienced first hand the positive and empowering results of providing a quality secondary education to girls. This incredible story is of hope and determination of two teachers living on opposite sides of the world, struggling to give young girls the opportunity to dream .and live to see their dreams come true. and allowed me to create and share my interpretation of this journey

Achieving Dreams-BRICK BY BRICK\Atsikana Pa Ulendo (APU) is a Malawi/Canada organization dedicated to helping young Malawian women achieve self-sufficiency through education. Memory Chazeza, Christie Johnson.and their supporters are helping Memory achieve her dream to build a secondary school for girls in Malawi. Memory knows firsthand the impact higher education can have on the lives of young girls in Malawi. In reaching her dream of obtaining a Bachelor of Education degree, Memory envisions the day when other girls in Malawi, too, can reach their dreams.

Why Girls?
“Because there’s poverty, and war, and hunger, and AIDS, and because when adolescent girls in the developing world have a chance, they can be the most powerful force of change for themselves, their families, communities, countries, and even the planet.”- www.girleffect.org
