“Gardening is the art that uses flowers and plants as paint, and the soil and sky as canvas." – Elizabeth Murray
We are pleased to welcome you to tour through the grounds of our organic farm and creative gardens which includes peacocks, ducks and chickens. Our approach to gardening is to celebrate the gifts that mother nature seasonally provides for our use including nitrogen rich grass clippings, seaweed, wood chips, fall leaves, rotten hay, food scraps and our chicken’s outputs! Using these materials we practice a three-bin compost system which supports our organic garden’s generous crops.
We will showcase our newest creations both on the farm grounds and in the studio/gallery in the upper level of the barn. My family’s artistic expressions, creative recycling and an organic approach to living are evident throughout our home and gardens. Watch for repurposed antiques, ‘Living Tree Art’ throughout the trees containing objects up-cycled from barrel hoops, cymbals, fishing flashers, lanterns and more- these swirl in the wind adding movement, glitter and magic. Our gardens are the home to giant bird nests and a plethora of mushrooms which are fun to look for!
We offer many unique gifts for yourself or others including mirrors, vases and votives, posters/cards, contemporary art, our trendy peacock/flock feather earrings, garden gifts and gift certificates.
Come and experience the beauty, surprises and inspirations which are waiting amongst our hayloft gallery and gardens on the farm.
Drop in July 6th for the Kivari Gardens and Studio open house, or to buy tickets for the full Westshore Garden Tour, visit SIVW or Down To Earth Nursery at 1096 Derrien Place. All ticket proceeds go towards the Soroptimist International of Victoria Westshore.

Mother & Daughter - Collaborative Creativity Art Show
2016
“To be in your children’s memories tomorrow, you have to be in their lives today” ~ Anonymous
For the month of April and May, the local mother and daughter duo, Jennifer and Mariah Kivari will be showcasing their artwork at the Broken Paddle Coffee House in Metchosin. Many of their pieces are based around the theme of mothers and children. As a mother and an artist, Jennifer feels privileged to share with her daughter the experience and joy of creating, and running a business in their studio and gallery.
Mariah has always had a role in assisting her mom with the studio tours, but is now a grade 12 student who has become an artist of her own, with a powerful voice and a desire to stretch the parameters of her own creative medium. They share the aspiration to use collected materials, unwanted items and what many consider to be “waste” in an earth-friendly, green approach to art making.
Jennifer believes that giving your children some of your time on a consistent basis is a must for the health of your kids, your family and yourself — especially because they won't be kids forever.
Feel free to pop down to view the art at the Broken Paddle and enjoy some freshly baked goods, drinks, and a light lunch at this eclectic Metchosin gathering place.
Jennifer and Mariah are also available for a special tour of the Kivari Studio gallery and gardens by calling (250) 474-7403, or by email at [email protected]

For the first time we are offering a studio guide that will be available all year. Metchosin and East Sooke are home to a large number of artists and artisans in all disciplines who have chosen to live and work here, finding inspiration amidst the rolling landscape and lush rain forests near the sea. The Stinking Fish Studio Guide features the best of fine art and fine craft on the southern island, surrounded by its natural beauty.
Come explore one of the richest “art trails” on the island – meet the artists, see their work and take some home with you! All are welcome. Artworks are for sale.
The guides are available at the following locations, Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, Metchosin Country Store, Coast Collective, Sooke Museum, Art World, Mary Winspear Centre, Red Gallery, 2% Jazz, all our sponsors and from the artists' studios.
There is no set date for a tour as the Artists' studios are open throughout the year by calling them ahead to arrange a suitable time to visit.
